This structural connection detail shows a girder framed into a hollow structural section column using a built-up plate tee with standard or short slotted holes. A three-eighths-inch cap plate is welded to the top of the column with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds typical at the cap plate. Knife plate connections are detailed for varying column widths with sizing formulas for plates based on dimension B and thickness t. Edge distances and bolt spacings are specified with one inch, one-and-a-half-inch, and one-and-three-quarter-inch dimensions for short slotted holes. Five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds secure the connection components as indicated in the plan and elevation views.
