A hollow structural section column is welded to a base plate with a five-sixteenths inch fillet weld, and the plate is secured by four three-quarter inch diameter anchor rods embedded in a concrete footing. Non-shrink grout is placed beneath the base plate, bearing on the top of the footing. The contractor must hold the base plate rigidly in place while grouting. The finished column end and base plate comply with AISC standards, and the anchor rod assembly references detail thirteen on sheet S01-2201.
