A three-eighths-inch thick cap plate is placed at the top of the column for the beam to column connection. The beam is welded to the column using maximum thickness partial-joint-penetration welds at the top and bottom, specified on both the near side and far side. A beam to beam connection is detailed with similar maximum thickness partial-joint-penetration welds.
