An alternate double stud attachment for interior studs uses eighteen-gauge, one-by-three-inch plates on both sides spaced at twenty-four inches on center, secured to each stud with number ten sheet metal screws in lieu of welding. Standard welded configurations use an eighth-inch weld spaced one inch on twenty-four-inch centers typically on each side.
