An HSS post supports a steel W-beam carrying a concrete on metal deck floor assembly, utilizing a connecting plate welded to the beam web with quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides. The post fits into an HSS sleeve with a five-sixteenth-inch thickness, positioned one and a half inches below the underside of the beam flange. A plate per detail 6A/S0.34 bridges the top of the HSS post to the underside of the structural plate. The steel beam and HSS post sizes are sized per plan and elevation respectively.
