A diagonal hollow structural section brace is connected to a column using two gusset plates, one on each side of the brace. The gusset plates are welded to the column with one-quarter inch fillet welds on each side. The hollow structural section is welded to the gusset plates with a flare bevel weld. A minimum six-inch clearance is maintained between the brace end and the column face. Two continuity plates are installed within the column web at the beam connection level, as specified per detail 9/S521. A seismic force resisting system beam connects to the opposite side of the column, sized per plan.
