A wide-flange steel beam frames into a glulam timber edge beam using a three-quarter-inch thick knife plate aligned with the centerline of the bearing plate. The knife plate is welded to a three-quarter-inch thick back plate with a quarter-inch fillet weld each side. The steel web is fastened to the timber with three SDWS27400SS structural wood screws on each side of the steel web. A three-quarter-inch thick base plate rests on a one-and-a-half-inch thick shim plate, secured with eight SDWS27400SS structural wood screws. Fillet welds of quarter-inch size connect the beam to the shim plate, the shim plate to the base plate, and the base plate to the shim plate on each side. Angled rods extend from the base plate to receive threaded rods lengthened as required per plan.
