The top plate of a non-bearing wood stud wall intersects wood sub-purlins running parallel above it, maintaining a half-inch clearance. The assembly uses double 2x top plates connected to 2x6 blocking spaced at twenty-four inches on center with two 16d nails at each end. In the left section, continuous 2x4 members are attached to each side with two 16d nails or three number 8 by three-inch sheet rock screws per block. In the right section, sound-transmitting clips or structural ties are spaced at twenty-four inches on center each side.
