A diagonal hollow structural section brace, sized per elevation, connects to a structural steel beam and column, both sized per elevation. The brace is reinforced with one-half inch by six-inch plates on each side, which are welded to the hollow structural section with a flare-bevel groove weld. The assembly is secured to the top flange of the beam with one-quarter inch fillet welds on each side of the plate. A minimum six-inch clearance is maintained between the brace connection and the column face.
