This connection utilizes a built-up beam stub to facilitate the attachment of a buckling restrained brace to a round hollow structural section column. The beam stub flange plates are welded to the column and the gusset plate using half-inch fillet welds, with the stub flange plate thickness specified to match or exceed the beam flange thickness. The gusset plate is continuous through the beam stub, with its thickness determined by the brace manufacturer. The buckling restrained brace connects to the gusset plate via a welded connection as specified by the manufacturer. The assembly accommodates brace orientation variations, and the gusset plate may extend above or below the beam stub as required by the frame geometry.
