An L4x4x1/4 diagonal brace connects an existing wide-flange beam to the underside of a concrete-filled metal deck. At the upper connection, an L5x5x5/16 angle is anchored to the concrete deck using 3/8-inch-diameter Hilti KB-TZ expansion anchors with a 2-3/4-inch effective embedment. At the lower connection, a three-eighths-inch full-depth stiffener plate is welded to the wide-flange beam web with five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds on three sides. The diagonal angle is fastened with a three-quarter-inch-diameter A490 slip-critical bolt centered in the angle leg, supplemented by a welded connection option at the contractor's discretion using typical five-sixteenths-inch welds.
