A wide-flange steel beam connects to a glulam timber member using a three-quarter-inch-thick steel knife plate centered in the glulam. One-quarter-inch stiffener plates weld to each side of the steel beam web. The assembly is supported by a four-inch diameter extra-strong pipe resting on an eleven-inch square by half-inch-thick steel base plate. Connection to the timber is secured with three-quarter-inch diameter by nine-inch long A36 threaded rods passing horizontally through the glulam. Holes are sealed and patched to match architectural flashing and finishes. Aluminum louvers integrate into the assembly around the steel framing.
