Concrete slabs and walls accommodate pipe and conduit penetrations through embedded sleeves with strict dimensional limits. Maximum sleeve diameter 'D' is restricted to the slab or wall thickness 'T' divided by three, or two inches, whichever is smaller. Clear spacing between sleeves must be at least three times the sleeve diameter or four inches minimum. When required clear distance between sleeves cannot be maintained, the congested zone must be treated as a structural opening with appropriate reinforcing. Centerlines of conduits and pipes align within the mid-depth of the concrete element.
