Wood nailers are secured to steel sections using five-eighths inch diameter threaded rods spaced at sixteen inches on center. The threaded rods are welded to the steel section with a one-quarter inch fillet weld, or alternatively welded with a one-quarter inch partial joint penetration weld all around. Web fillers consisting of solid wood or a pack of laminated strand lumber with a maximum of one layer of plywood shim are used at wide-flange sections where required. Contractors also have the option to use welded threaded studs.
