A hollow structural section beam frames into a hollow structural section column oriented at a rotation, connected by one-half inch top and bottom plates welded with typical quarter-inch fillet welds. A one-half inch stiffener plate is centered underneath the beam and welded to the column with typical quarter-inch fillet welds. A maximum gap of one-half inch is maintained between the beam end and the column face. The section view shows a four-inch minimum bearing width for the beam on the column assembly.
