A concrete column or steel column base plate is surrounded by an isolation joint forming a diamond-shaped cutout in the slab. The assembly incorporates a number 4 edge bar reinforced with a four-foot-long number 4 bar placed diagonally. A twelve-inch typical dimension and a four-inch clearance govern the placement around the column profile. Infill with lean concrete occurs after form removal at locations without contraction or construction joints. Contraction or construction joints reference sheet 11/S5.01.
