Reinforcing bars extend past the face of the support column or wall with a development length of Ld, extended straight unless standard hooks are necessary. Beam top and bottom reinforcement lap splices require a dimension of twelve times the bar diameter or twelve inches minimum, with a maximum offset of one to six for cranked bars. Splice spacing allows one and one-half inches or wired in contact. Bars are extended straight unless standard hooks are provided where necessary.
