This structural steel column splice detail connects upper and lower wide-flange columns using an ASTM A36 steel splice plate secured by eight 7/8-inch diameter A325 bolts installed snug tight. Filler plates are provided as required to accommodate dimensional differences, with vertical standard slotted holes located in the splice plate. A five-sixteenths inch fillet weld is provided at the contractor's option in lieu of shop bolts in the lower column. The contractor shall provide all erection and stability aids and refer to AISC guidelines where nominal depth changes.
