Utility penetrations through metal sill and top tracks are reinforced using one-quarter-inch by two-inch by one-foot-zero-inch steel plates welded to each side of the track. The plates receive a quarter-inch fillet weld for three inches at each end along the top and bottom edges. Holes exceeding the maximum unreinforced diameter require structural engineer notification and must be drilled rather than sawn.
