Concrete slab construction joints feature embedded dowels and tie bars spaced along the joint interface. For standard joints, number three reinforcing bars measuring thirty-six inches long are placed at twenty-four inches on center alongside PNA diamond dowels sized quarter-inch by four and a half inches for five to six-inch slabs, or three-eighths by four and a half inches for seven to eight-inch slabs. Alternative configurations utilize round dowels measuring five-eighths by twelve inches for five to six-inch slabs or three-quarters by twelve inches for seven to eight-inch slabs, with the exposed side lightly greased. Hybrid construction joints for dominant joint mitigation incorporate rebar and round dowels sized per slab thickness minus one-eighth inch.
