The steel beam connects to the steel column using a one-half-inch shear tab fastened with three seven-eighth-inch diameter bolts. Fifty KSI continuity plates match the greater beam flange thickness plus one-eighth of an inch. Complete joint penetration welds secure the plate sides typically. Where vertical offsets exceed the one-to-three slope, horizontal continuity plates align with both flanges. A cantilevered floor beam utilizes a similar shear tab connection with typical weld access holes.
