A hollow structural section steel column is welded to a three-quarter-inch base plate with a quarter-inch fillet weld. The assembly is secured to the concrete foundation using four three-quarter-inch diameter anchor bolts embedded nine inches into the footing. A one-inch layer of non-shrink grout is placed beneath the base plate to provide full bearing.
