A three-eighths-inch steel plate passes horizontally through slotted walls of a hollow structural section column. The connection is secured with one-quarter-inch fillet welds on both sides of the plate where it penetrates the column wall. An attached structural member bolts to the extending plate using a threaded bolt and nut fastener assembly.
