This connection assembly features an HSS beam framing into a continuous or terminating HSS column. A three-eighths-inch cap plate is provided at the top of the column where the column terminates. Where the column extends past the connection, a five-sixteenths-inch fillet weld connects the members as indicated. Additional connection welds include a three-eighths-inch weld from the HSS to the cap plate where applicable, and five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds on each side of the beam connection. Standard notes permit the interchange of fillet groove and flare bevel welds depending on member geometry, with flare bevel welds replaced by five-sixteenths-inch effective fillet welds when geometry permits.
