This section detail shows a built-up steel stair stringer composed of four three-eighths-inch thick plates welded at the corners with complete joint penetration and surfaces ground smooth. A one-quarter-inch tread plate extends beyond with a three-quarter-inch bent leg pointing up, paired with another one-quarter-inch tread plate featuring a three-quarter-inch bent leg pointing down. A three-quarter-inch vertical riser plate connects to the tread plate as indicated typical. The assembly connects to a vertical plate spanning into the built-up section with a maximum cantilever of two feet two inches and a minimum depth of nine inches.
