A construction joint in a concrete slab features a keyed interface with a depth equal to one-half the slab thickness, or alternatively an intentionally roughened entire surface at the contractor's option. All slab reinforcing steel extends continuously through the joint. Spacing and edge dimensions include a six-inch minimum from the edge of slab, six-inch spacing increments, and a thirty-inch maximum dimension.
