A concrete stair on grade features number three bars at twelve inches on center and number four bars at sixteen inches on center at the bottom, with number four bottom reinforcing below each riser. A number three nosing bar is placed at each typical step, tied into the stair slab which terminates with a twelve-inch minimum footing and two number four bottom bars. A cheek wall or building wall connects via a three-quarter inch by five-inch continuous key and number four dowels at twelve inches on center with standard hooks. A class 'A' lap splice with a six-inch minimum is provided where the stair slab ties into the upper slab on grade. Where a cheek wall is required, an eight-inch thick concrete wall with number four bars at twelve inches on center each way is provided.
