A steel beam bears directly onto a steel cap plate atop a steel column sized per plan and schedule. A steel cap plate, sized per the column schedule, is welded to the top of the steel column with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld. Beam web stiffeners or beam web connection plates are provided on each side of the beam web, welded with quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides. Bolts secure the beam flange to the cap plate assembly.
