A structural steel pipe column bears on a reinforced concrete column with a two-inch layer of non-shrink grout beneath the base plate. The base plate is secured by anchor bolts featuring square plates with nuts at top and bottom. A vertical kerf plate made from Grade 50 steel is welded inside the pipe column with quarter-inch fillet welds. Additional steel pipes intersect the column at an angle, connected with three-sixteenth-inch typical cap plates and quarter-inch fillet welds. A quarter-inch cap plate seals the top of the main pipe column.
