A galvanized hollow structural section post connects to a three-quarter-inch thick by ten-inch by ten-inch base plate using four seven-eighth-inch diameter high-strength bolts. The base plate rests directly on the top flange of a wide-flange steel beam, secured with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on typical sides and supported by three-eighth-inch by three-inch stiffener plates welded to the beam web with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. A perpendicular steel beam frames into the web of the supporting beam via a three-eighth-inch connection plate with two three-quarter-inch diameter erection bolts, welded with a quarter-inch fillet weld around three sides.
