Concrete masonry unit walls bear on a stepped concrete footing featuring a maximum step height of one foot four inches. The concrete footing incorporates a sloping transition zone with a minimum horizontal dimension of one and three-quarters times the step height. Reinforcing steel requires a typical lap splice with three inches of clear cover. The finished floor line and block module dimensions coordinate with the footing steps to maintain minimum footing depth below grade.
