A typical mild reinforced concrete slab closure strip is placed between adjacent concrete slabs. Each side features a keyed construction joint with bottom reinforcing steel continuing as specified per plans. The closure strip span includes a lap splice length equal to the development length of the largest top or bottom bar plus three inches on each side. Additional number four reinforcing bars spaced at twenty-four inches on center are provided where top reinforcing is absent per the plan. The closure strip slab must be cast a minimum of twenty-eight days after adjacent slab placement, and the slab must remain shored until the closure strip reaches its twenty-eight-day design strength.
