An HSS or pipe steel column connects to a supporting steel beam via a three-quarter-inch base plate secured by four three-quarter-inch A325N bolts. Two half-inch stiffener plates are welded to both sides of the beam web, sized to match the beam width and positioned according to AISC manual dimensions. A minimum three-sixteenth-inch fillet weld connects the base plate to the column per AISC specifications. The base plate width is sized as required or matches the beam flange width.
