This connection assembly joins a structural steel column oriented perpendicular to a beam web using a bearing plate measuring 3/4 inch by column flange width plus 1 inch by column depth plus 1 inch. The connection is secured with four 3/4-inch diameter bolts arranged at the beam gauge. A column cap plate matches the bearing plate size, and partial-height stiffener plates measuring 3/8 inch thick are aligned with the column web and welded on two sides with typical 1/4-inch fillet welds.
