A threaded holdown rod specified per the shear wall schedule connects directly to the top flange of a structural steel beam. A complete joint penetration weld secures the threaded rod to the top flange. Stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web using three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on each side. Each stiffener plate is sized to one-quarter inch thickness or the beam web thickness, whichever is larger.
