An embed plate is welded to the top flange of a steel beam using a quarter-inch fillet weld applied on three sides. One four-inch long by three-quarter-inch diameter Nelson stud is welded to the plate at twelve inches on center. Quarter-inch thick stiffener plates are spaced at thirty-six inches on center beneath the flange. The metal deck is omitted for clarity.
