A steel column base plate assembly centers on a column grid line. Four anchor rods occupy the corners of the base plate, each secured with a five-eighths inch square washer plate featuring a standard hole per American Institute of Steel Construction recommendations. Five-sixteenths inch fillet welds connect the column flanges to the base plate, and one-quarter inch fillet welds secure the column web on both sides. Two two-inch diameter grout holes penetrate the base plate. Anchor rod nuts require tightening only after plate washer welds are complete, with all welding performed in accordance with D1.8 seismic demand critical weld requirements.
