The assembly is supported on an 18-inch layer of non-expansive soil fill placed over undisturbed ground sized per the soils report and structural plans. A 4-inch layer of crushed rock rests directly on the compacted fill to provide a capillary break. An ASTM E 1745 Class C vapor barrier is installed directly over the crushed rock layer to prevent moisture transmission through the slab. The concrete slab on grade is placed directly over the vapor barrier with reinforcing centered in the slab as specified on the structural plans.
