An HSS strongback connects to the bottom of an existing concrete ledger using a three-eighths-inch thick bent plate and three-quarter-inch diameter threaded rods installed with Hilti HIT-RE 500-V3 adhesive anchor epoxy having a six-inch embedment. One-quarter-inch thick stiffener plates are welded to the bent plate with typical three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds. The strongback itself is secured with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld at the bent plate connection. A drawing note instructs to verify the location of existing rebar using non-destructive testing before fabrication and to avoid existing reinforcing when drilling for post-installed anchors and concrete dowels.
