A steel beam bears on a three-eighths-inch thick connection plate welded to the top of a steel column. The column is sized per plan and connects to the bearing plate with four five-eighths-inch A307 bolts. Three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to both sides of the steel beam web using three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds, positioned two inches above the bottom flange. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld secures the plate to the column top. A note directs the builder to reference the typical beam-to-beam connection detail for full-depth stiffeners at intersecting beams.
