Construction joint configurations for concrete beams and girders based on member depth. For members with a depth less than or equal to two feet, a single one-and-a-half-inch key with a length equal to half the beam width is centered in the joint. For members with a depth greater than two feet, two keys are provided spaced at one-fifth the member depth. Beam and girder reinforcement is extended continuously through the top and bottom of the construction joint. Construction joint locations are determined per the project specifications.
