An incoming steel beam connects to the flange of a supporting wide-flange column using a bolted shear plate. A plate sized to match the shear plate thickness is welded to the column web, with its width matching the incoming beam flange width or six inches minimum, whichever is greater. Full-height column stiffener plates matching the shear plate thickness and weld size are provided on the column web opposite the beam connection. For shear plate sizing, welds, and fasteners, reference the typical beam connection schedule. Fillet welds attach the stiffener plates and web plates to the column per the schedule.
