Horizontal reinforcement is stopped at the masonry control joint, utilizing open-end masonry blocks and sawcuts as required. A four-foot smooth dowel matching the horizontal reinforcement size spans the joint, coated with grease or fitted with a plastic sleeve to allow movement. One vertical number four reinforcing bar is placed on each side of the joint for added stability. The joint itself is filled with sealant along the exterior face.
