Steel beams connect to a column web using a bolted single plate shear tab welded to the column face, with the shear tab thickness equal to the beam web thickness plus one-quarter inch. Continuity plates are provided at the top and bottom flanges on both sides of the column, featuring weld symbols and dimensions such as a three-inch minimum spacing and two-inch typical dimensions. A second row of bolts is added as required per plan. Continuity plates are omitted on a specific side if the dimension is less than three inches.
