A reinforced concrete mat slab bears on a pile with vertical reinforcement extending fifteen inches into the slab. Number 8 slab reinforcement is provided throughout, accompanied by additional bottom bars placed to either side of the vertical pile reinforcement in both directions. A one-inch thick isolation joint material separates the steam plant foundation and trench from the reinforced concrete pit wall.
