A structural steel beam features a top cope with a slotted plate fitted around the web for the plate length Ls. The slot width is specified as the web thickness plus one-eighth inch maximum. Welds are indicated on the near side and far side with size W. A minimum two-inch dimension governs the vertical clearance at the cope.
