A cold-formed steel slip and deflection track assembly at the top of a metal stud wall accommodates structural deflection without transferring vertical loads to the partition. The assembly consists of a 625T200-54 deflection track housing an inner 600T300-54 deep leg inside track, with a required one-half inch gap maintained above the stud. Each metal stud connects to the track using one number 10-16 screw per stud flange, positioned one-half inch from the track leg with one and one-half inches of vertical engagement. An adjacent full-height window detail shows a three and five-eighths inch dimension and requires the inside dimension of the outer track to be one-quarter inch greater than the stud depth.
