A steel beam frames into a column flange at the top of a column. A cap plate is welded across the top of the column flange, with a thickness determined by the greater of the connected beam flange thicknesses plus one-quarter inch, with a one-inch minimum. Continuity plates are provided inside the column web, sized using the larger of the beam flange thicknesses. Shear tabs are welded to the column flange where beams frame in, utilizing bolted connections to the beam webs.
