About this detail

A coped beam frames into the web of a supporting girder with both top and bottom flanges coped to clear the girder flanges. A full-height stiffener plate, with thickness matching the beam web, is welded to the girder web opposite the connection. The beam web connects to the girder using the maximum number of bolts that will fit, maintaining a two-bolt diameter minimum spacing from the face of the web. Fillet welds secure the web connections, with typical one-half-inch clearances.
