An HSS beam connects to a wide flange column using L4x4x1/2 structural angles welded to the top and bottom of the beam. The top and bottom angles are sized to the column width minus one and a half inches at the flange connection, and to the column depth minus two and a half inches minus k at the web connection. A maximum one-half inch clearance is maintained between the beam end and the column face. Fillet welds of five-sixteenths inch are applied on both sides of the angles against the column flange or web, and one-quarter inch welds are applied on three sides of the angles connecting to the HSS beam.
